NOC, Greensprings sign MoU

The Nigeria Olympic Committee and Greensprings School, Lagos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the propagation of the Olympic Value Education Programme, an initiative of the International Olympic Committee.The IOC established the OVEP in order to teach the youth the educational values inherent in Olympism. The five values are joy of effort, fair play, respect for others, pursuit of excellence and balance between body, will and mind.Among other things, the MoU includes having the parties work together in achieving the success of OVEP, while Greensprings will make available its facilities for the programme.NOC Secretary General, Tunde Popoola, said at the event on Thursday that the NOC settled for Greensprings School because the institution had shown it had the capacity to meet with the challenge of spreading the message.The NOC was attracted to Greensprings by the quality of the schools education. Were using the school as a reference and we hope other schools will emulate them and make the world better, Popoola said.The Director of the school, Mrs. Lai Koiki, said the OVEP was in line with the schools ethics and ideal which had been inculcated in the pupils.She said, NOC has given Greensprings the opportunity to reach out to other children. This is targeted at the youth in order to make them understand what it is to live peacefully with others.It assures everyone that theres a brighter future for the world because its for the children who will shape the future. The school will continue to play its part in teaching the youths the values of life.
