Group, Adaba FM disagree on incitement

Published by Punch on Fri, 11 Nov 2011

The Sunshine Coalition Group, a non-governmental organisation in Ondo State on Thursday raised the alarm that an influential individual was using a private radio station, Adaba FM, to cause confusion among residents of the state. The Coordinator of the group, Chief Mathew Babalola, in a statement in Akure asked the National Broadcasting Commission to analyse the contents of the programmes being aired by the radio with a view to cautioning the operators. He also advised residents of the state to disregard whatever information they heard on the radio station, alleging that it was a grand plan to discredit the Governor Olusegun Mimiko administration. However the General Manager of Adaba FM, Mr. Martins Ayoola, denied the allegation in a telephone interview with our correspondent. He explained that more than half of the members of staff of the station were Ondo State indigenes and that everybody in the state had access to the station. He said, We have a reporter attached to the Government House in Akure and the state government is sponsoring more than five programmes every week on the radio station. We are open to everybody and we have no apology for doing thatThe group added, The station has consistently being airing programmes that usually portray the current administration in the state in a bad light. Governor Mimiko has tolerated them for too long but we now see the need to call them to order before they destroy our state.Their interest is to ensure victory for the opposition party in the state come 2013 and they would not mind dissemination false information to achieve their aim.
