Fashikun released on bail

FORMER Sports Editor, Herald Newspapers, Jide Fashikun was Wednesday evening released by officers from Force CID, Inspector General Of Police Monitoring Unit after he was held over alleged defamation of character.Tribunesports was reliably informed that the sports journalist was arrested in his Abuja office around 6.15pm last Wednesday by the security operatives who took him to the Police Force Headquarters for questioning.And confirming the development Thursday, Fashikun told the Tribunesports that he was actually arrested by the police officers over alleged character defamation by the members of the Nigeria Football Federation.He also informed the Tribunesports that he was granted bail same Wednesday night after questioning, adding that his laptop and hard disc were in the custody of the security personnel for furthet investigation.Fashikun, the former sports editor with This Day Newspaper and now Weekend Editor, National Accord newspaper, said: ''I was arrested by the police over a petition against the NFF board members where I alleged forgery of signature of a letter of the ethics committee of the world football governing body, FIFA. After being questioned, I was granted bail with the order that I should make myself available anytime my attention is needed,'' he said while speaking with Tribunesports on phone from Abuja Thursday evening.Tribunesports however reliably gathered that the NFF board member mentioned in the signature forgery saga reported the matter to the police upon which he was arrested for questioning.
