Gawuna wants to lead YSFON

KANO-BASED grassroots football promoter, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has thrown his hat into the race for the national president of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON).Gawuna, who is currently the vice president (north) of the body, pledged in Kano on Thursday that if voted into power, each of the entire geo-political zones in the country would produce a vice president to achieve the goal of reaching every community in the country in the bid to catch them young.The seat became vacant after YSFON's national president, Jamiu Ojulari, passed on in September.Gawuna, a former chairman of the Nasarawa Local Council of Kano State, promised that when elected, he would ensure a review of YSFON's constitution that could stand the test of time, just as he harped on the need to decentralise the administration of YSFON.'All geo-political zones in the country should have a vice president and they would be empowered to organise tournaments on their own and when this is done, we would have reduced the burden of overreliance on the national secretariat,' he said.Pledging to respect the rule of law, he also promised to create a functional database for YSFON that could be easily accessed from any part of the world.The Biochemistry graduate of the Uthman Danfodio University, Sokoto, promised to attract sponsorship from blue chip organisations to YSFON, as well as ensure the upgrading of facilities at the Calabar sports academy.
