MoneyGram and its agent banks in Nigeria have made good their promise to give out 20 notebook computers and other educational materials to customers who emerged successful in the national draw for their consumer promo for this year.Some of the lucky customers, who attended the prize presentation ceremony held at the Lagos headquarters of the money transfer company, were taken aback to realize that what they perceived as a joke eventually turned out to be real.Against their expectation that the whole thing would turn out to be mere ruse, some winners smiled home with HP notebook computers while others went home with school bags containing educational materials meant to support the urge for quality education by different categories of people in Nigeria.The lucky customers present at the event include Dorcas Ayegbo, Expechi Chinwe, Adebayo Abiodun, Ajibade Abolanle and Olufunmilayo Osibajo. They all went home with their prizes.In her review of the consumer promo, Feyikemi Adebayo, MoneyGram's regional director for Anglophone West Africa; expressed satisfaction with the response of customers to the exercise, which she said was meant to service their educational needs in the country.According to her, MoneyGram has unalloyed commitment to education development in Nigeria, as it believes that the sector plays a very important role in nation building process through provision of human resource for other industries that constitute the aggregate economy. Adebayo said the need to boost access to quality education in this part of the world cannot be over emphasized; stressing that this necessitated the MoneyGram's resolve to make a positive difference in the various tiers of education in Nigeria. The prize presentation climaxed series of programmes that were organised while the promo titled: 'Gear Up for School' lasted between August 22, 2011 and September 30, 2011. Parts of the programmes organized are road shows to Ibadan, Oyo State; to Benin, Edo State; and book donation to different primary schools in both cities.A total of 11 primary schools benefitted from the kind gesture. Three of them were in Ibadan, five in Benin, and the remaining three in Lagos.The beneficiary schools in Benin are Oguola Primary School, Payne Primary School, Iyabosa Primary School, Ogbe Primary School, and Ebenezer Primary School. Their counterparts from Ibadan are People's Primary School, Iyana Ade-Oyo, Ring Road; Ibadan Municipal Government (IMG) Primary School, Barrack Okebola; and Ebenezar Primary School, Salvation Army.
