Dosu pleads for Keshi

Published by Tribune on Sat, 12 Nov 2011

FORMER Super Eagles goalie, Dosu Joseph believes Nigeria has got it right with the appointment of Stephen Keshi as the new national team coach but fears that putting too much pressure on him could pose a big threat to his success. In an interview monitored on a Lagos based radio station, the former Julius Berger safehand advised Nigerians not to expect too much from Keshi in his early days as the Eagles gaffer but pleaded that he should be given enough time to settle down and work out plans to return the lost glory of the team.Making reference to the era of Clemence Westerhof, Dosu, Atlanta '96 Olympics gold medalist recollected that the Dutchman was able to achieve much because he had enough time and conducive atmosphere to operate.''It is good that Keshi has been appointed, but my fears are that Nigerians will put him under too much pressure. During the time of Westerhof, he had about five years to get things in proper shape.'''But can we be patient enough to give this gentleman such a chance' Nigerians are always after quick result and this might cause problem for Keshi.'"We know how the Eagles team is presently, it requires a lot of time for us to get it right again, that is why we need to give the new man the chance to try his best and I am sure he will not disappoint,'' said the ex Eagles goalkeeper.
