Bayelsa 2012: Sylva dares PDP, plans to declare ambition tomorrow

Published by Tribune on Sat, 12 Nov 2011

Regardless ofthe Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP's) refusal to issue clearance needed to participate in the November 19, 2011 primary election, strong indications emerged on Thursday, in Yenagoa, that the governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, has already concluded plans to declare his intention to contest the governorship primary.Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that the governor, whose name was still not included in the party's second batch of cleared aspirants released by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party on Wednesday in Abuja, would tomorrow address his supporters in the state capital to re-affirm his ambition to contest the election in PDP.This is coming against the backdrop of seven members of the National Assembly sympathetic to Sylva, who condemned the continual exclusion of the governor from the list of the party's aspirants.A close ally of the governor informed our correspondent that the governor had perfected arrangements to mobilise his supporters across the eight local government areas, ahead of the Saturday declaration ceremony, scheduled to hold in Yenagoa.According to Sylva's ally, who pleaded anonymity, 'barring any unforeseen circumstance, the governor will formally declare his intention to contest the primaries on Saturday. Whether he is cleared by the party or not, the declaration will hold at the Sports Complex and all his supporters have already been invited to attend the occasion.
