Boko Haram:Fashola gives ultimatum for removal of abandoned vehicles

Published by Tribune on Sat, 12 Nov 2011

As part of measuresto prevent the terror campaign of the Boko Haram sect in Lagos State, the state governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has directed the immediate removal of abandoned vehicles within the state secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja. He gave the directive through the state Head of Service, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe. In this regard, members of staff who have their cars parked on the premises have been given a 14-day ultimatum to evacuate them.According to a circular signed by Ogunlewe, a copy of which was made available to Nigerian Tribune, the governor noted that with the unending bombing across the country by the Boko Haram sect, the parked vehicles posed serious security threat to the state. It read, 'in consideration of the recent spate of bombing and threat to public infrastructure, there is need to re-emphasise and sensitise public servants on security consciousness. The report emanating from the routine patrol of the old and new secretariats by the Rapid Response Squad has indicated that some members of staff, their relations and friends have cultivated the habit of turning the secretariat into a garage for parking their vehicles, particularly during weekends and public holidays. This act , if left unchecked, may serve as safe havens for evil minded people. Some cars have been found to be abandoned at various car parks within the old and new secretariats. These vehicles constitute public nuisance within the environment. Hence, there is need to curb this practice for security purposes.
