Secret Killings Continue In Kaduna

Village Head, Wife Murdered Despite CurfewIN SPITE of the 24-hour imposed by the Kaduna State government, secret killings continued in the crisis zone in the southern part of Kaduna, as the village head of Apiakashil, near Kafanchan, in Jama'a Council, Mr. Bulus Adamu, and his wife,Ladi, were killed on Thursday night.Thiscompounded the security situation in the area, prompting the police command to send more armed policemen to the area yesterday.Besides, sourcesin Kafanchan also said hundreds of naked women and youths in particular (in the area) defied the curfew to protest the killings which they alleged was perpetrated by the Hausa community in the area.They were said to have accused the security agencies of failing in their duty to protect them from those who were killing and burning their houses. The protesters were also said to have condemned the imposition of the 24-hour curfew which, according to them, has made life difficult for them as they can no longer feed their families and meet other needs.Armed bandits were said to have invaded Apiakashi Village, four kilometres away from Kafanchan town where Muslim and Christian youths had clashed last Wednesday following the killing of a youth in the area. Several houses were also reportedly burnt last night despite the curfew.Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Bala Nasarawa,who reportedly relocated to Kafanchan on Thursday to take charge of the security situation in the area, could not confirm the killings and the protests by women and youths when contacted. 'I am too busy I cannot speak with you now,' he said on telephone.
