Oyo holds disable athletes championships

Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dapo Lam-Adesina says about 150 special sport athletes will be in Ibadan for the maiden edition of Disable Sports Festival.Lam-Adesina, who spoke during the final preparation for the festival which holds at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, from November 14 to 17, added that the competition was being sponsored jointly by the state and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.He said, The festival will gulp N5m with athletes taking part in powerlifting, swimming, athletics, table tennis. It is an initiative that will give the disabled athletes a sense of belonging.They will be camped at the hostel of the stadium and successful athletes will win trophies, sports equipment and other valuable prizes.Oyo State and NDIC are committed to empowering the youth without bias to their condition. These athletes have brought honour to Nigeria and it is only right to appreciate and encourage them like their other counterparts.The commissioner said the sponsorship fee would cater for fees for the officials and camping of the athletes. He assured the participants that the festival would be a success.
