3SC escapes relegation as Dolphins win Nigerian Premier League

SHOOTING Stars Sports Club (3SC) FC of Ibadan escaped being demoted to the lower division of the Nigerian League following a lone goal victory over Lobi Stars of Makurdi in their last match of the season decided on Sunday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium just as Dolphins FC emerged the league champions.Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt emerged this year's league champion following their away victory over Bukola Babies of Ilorin decided at Kwara Township Stadium, with the only goal of the match scored in the first half of the encounter.With this victory, Dolphins top the league with 73 points while their league contender, Sunshine Stars FC of Akure went down in the hands of Kano Pillars by a lone goal. In defeat, the Sunshine Stars ended the season with 71 points.The only goal between Shooting Stars and Lobi Stars encounter was scored by Rahmen Owolabi when he beat Lobi Stars off-side trap in the seven minutes of the first half of the encounter.After the goal, Lobi Stars attackers mounted pressure on Shooting Stars defence lines but 3SC defenders marshalled by Abayomi Adigun denied them the needed equaliser till the end of the match.With this victory, the Oluyole Warriors escaped relegation to remain in the elite league come next season.
