First Deepwater optimistic of success in Cameroun

NIGERIAN Champions, First Deepwater Basketball Club, has vowed to do the country proud at the 17th edition of the FIBA Africa Champions Club for Women, which dunks off in Cameroun on December 4.Chairman of the club, Engr Babatunde Babalola told journalists at the weekend that his tem was not going to Cameroun to play for fun or complete the numbers but rather better its seventh place finish in its first outing in 2009 and also do the country proud.'We are going to the competition to show what we can do. We are the Nigerian champion but we need to move a step further and show that we can also compete at the continental level. Though good teams will come from allover Africa but we are ready for the challenge', the oil and gas magnate stated.Babalola expressed believe that the players and their handlers were motivated for the big challenges that await them in Cameroon when the competition dunks off.First Deepwater basketball club and runner-up of the Nigerian league First Bank basketball club will represent FIBA Africa Zone-3 having been given a bye and have defending champion Interclube basketball club of Angola, host I.N.J.S basketball club of Cameroon.Other teams expected at the 7-day championship include Arc-en-Ciel of Democratic Republic of Congo; Maculosso of Angola; Ports Authority of Kenya and O.C.E of Algeria.The eight clubs will be divided into two groups of four teams each with the two Nigerian and Angolan sides being grouped separated.
