Anti-virus firm to tackle grey market activities

Published by Punch on Tue, 15 Nov 2011

An Indian-based anti-virus and content security company, MicroWorld, has said it will checkmate the activities of grey market vendors selling other products as its products. The Assistant Vice-President, MicroWorld, Mr. Nazir Kazi, who said this on Monday, lamented that grey market vendors posed a serious threat to the companys products since it entered the Nigerian market.According to Kazi, the MicroWorlds eScan anti-virus suite, which incorporates anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, anti-phishing and other network intrusion prevention solutions, is now officially available in Nigeria. He also said the company had established a partnership with Systemtech Services Limited, a Nigerian ICT company, to allow customers to get access to eScan range of products country wide. The partnership, according to him, is in addition to the existing eScan distributor relationship with Junisat, a Lagos-based ICT solution company. The Indian solution provider said it would leverage the partnership with Junisat and Systemtech to curb the activities of grey market vendors in the country.Kazi explained that the high acceptance of eScan in Nigerias burgeoning market had also encouraged illicit sale of the product by unauthorised resellers, noting that the companys partnership with Systemtech and Junisat would ensure proper retail channels for the product. We are happy to be doing business with Junisat with whom we have associated for nearly a decade, he said.Kazi added that the offering of eScan powered by technologies such as MWL, DIRC and NILP, provided protection to both servers and endpoints. He stated that network administrators would be able to monitor and deploy a variety of anti-virus software within the eScan family and enforce integrated security policies across the network using a browser. He said, With our latest version of eScan, spreading of malware infection in network can be automatically prevented by sending an alert to the administrator about the outbreaks in the network. For difficulties that may arise as a result of language barrier in using the software; it has been designed in 16 different languages across the world, which can be uploaded during installation. The Chief Executive Officer, Junisat, Mr. Gboyega Ojuri, said, eScan offers 24-hour, seven days a week free technical support to customers and can quickly give technical solutions remotely from anywhere in the world without physically being present at the site.
