Firm to combat crime with electronic, forensic technology

Published by Punch on Tue, 15 Nov 2011

An indigenous security system design and installation company, Geo-Matrix Construction Company Nigeria Limited, has introduced into the country an electronic detection and forensic tagging technology to combat the prevailing crime rate in the nation. The Managing Director, Geo-Matrix, Mr. Juwon Ademola, who spoke about the technology in Lagos on Friday, said his company had integrated three internationally renowned security systemsthe secured security lighting with camera, Redweb Sentry 500 and the Detectalux detection systeminto one component for the Nigerian market. He said the electronic detection and forensic technology was customised for the Nigerian market after a careful study of the industrial and corporate security challenges in the country. He said the technology would help to curb incidences of bank robberies, thefts from cash points and Automated Teller Machines and other industrial thefts in the country.According to Ademola, the technology will trigger off a system that will emit an odourless and colourless liquid, which will forensically tag the intruder to the crime scene, whenever he enters a restricted area. This, according to him, is known as the RedWebs Advanced Molecular Taggent Technology, the latest innovation in forensic tagging. He noted that the RedWeb Molecular Taggent contained a red dye, which remained on the skin and clothing of the intruder for several days.It also contains an indelible ultra violet dye, which can only be seen under a UV light, according to him.Ademola said, This system, when installed, will mark invisibly any person who removes something unlawfully from the environment, and for 18 months, the person will remain forensically marked all over the world.Whenever you go through any Detectalux light anywhere in the world, you will be apprehended and returned to the country where you committed the offence. The time when innocent people were punished for an offence is gone. If there is a theft in a factory where our system is installed, all that needs to be done is have everybody with access pass through the UVF lights and the culprit will be detected. He noted that the technology could be integrated into existing burglar systems. We have only enhanced the efficiency of the entire operation to make your facility more secure, he said.
