Managers, firm's workers paint orphanage

Published by Punch on Tue, 15 Nov 2011

Staff of Nigerian Ball-Point Pen Industries Plc abandoned their pens and filed out in large numbers, to repaint an orphanage, Tunji Adebayo Foundation, in Fagba, Lagos. The activity, led by the Commercial Manager, CFAO Nipen, Mr. Ran Pagis, saw more than 30 employees of the company performing the task with fun. When PUNCH METRO visited the orphanage, which houses motherless babies, orphans, abandoned babies and the less privileged, the painters were seen at work.Pagis told our correspondent that they were at the orphanage to provide some corporate social responsibility and shared values in the community. He said, This year, we are trying to provide some social responsibility and shared values in the community we operate. That is why we came to this orphanage to give back to the society. We are painting the building of the orphanage. This is for the children. It is our effort to support a very nice man who built the orphanage to help the society.Pagis said apart from painting, the company was donating some paints, pens and other gifts to the inmates of the orphanage. Also, Senior Product Manager, Mr. Olasore Fatai, said the gesture was part of the companys activities to assist the less privileged. We are here to exercise our responsibility to the societyto identify with the less privileged and to let them know that in their state of abandonment, some people feel it was necessary to reach out to them. We want to make them feel they are a part of the societyto give them a sense of belonging, he said.Fatai, who said the government alone could not do everything for the citizens, urged corporate organisations to take out some percentage of their profits and plough them back to the society to make it a better place. The joy of the Executive Director and wife of the founder, Mrs. Modupeola Adebayo, knew no bounds when PUNCH METRO sought her view on the humanitarian service rendered by CFAO Nipen. The gesture of NIPEN came at a time we needed it most because we are working on a vocational centre in the foundation. Their coming has taken a lot of burden off our shoulderswe dont have to paint again. We can now work on how to equip the vocational centre, Adebayo said.
