Lagos values potable water

Lagos State Government has said it is concerned about the source of water the state residents drink.The state Commissioner for Rural Development, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, who spoke at the inauguration and handover of a modified type A water project to residents of four riverside communities in the state, said it was a policy of the government to practise preventive health policy.The communities: Ishagira, Ponpoku, Ibode and Irewe, although surrounded by water, do not have potable water to drink. They make use of well water.Ojelabi said the rural ministry provided the modified water project for the community to alleviate their suffering. He said the water, which would be pumped with the aid of solar power, was the state governments way of ensuring good health for residents of the state.The water from the river is not drinkable. Members of the community lodged a complaint to us last month and we were able to complete the project this month, he said.
