Training begins for 861 ex-militants

About 861 ex-militants from Delta and Bayelsa states have commenced training for second phase of the training at the Obubra Rehabilitation Camp in Cross River State.The new batch is to undergo training after activities in the camp resumed following its temporary closure in October to allow for the celebration of the second anniversary of amnesty programme. Already 19, 000 ex-combatants had so far undergone training at the camp.The Deputy Camp Commandant, Major Godwin Bernard, in an interview with some newsmen in Obubra said the commencement of activities in the camp was in fulfilment of the promise by the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, that the second phase of training would start soon.He said, The Federal Government is determined to bring this exercise to a logical end that is why approval for the commencement of the second phase for the training of these youths was quickly granted and the Special Adviser, Hon Kingsley Kuku has asked us to round off the training of those approved in the supplementary list.He said the youths were being exposed to the same content of rehabilitation training facilitated by the Foundation for Ethnic Harmony as their colleagues in the first phase.Bernard said the youths were well behaved and responded and actively participated in all camp activities and there was no casualty.
