CSR: WAPCO bags community award

For being socially responsible to itshost communities, the Sagamu Development Association (SDA), recently bestowed Sagamu Distinguished Corporate Business Award on Larfarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc.The organisers of the award ceremony noted that the company through its four core focus which include; health and safety, education, basic infastructure and youth empowerment had impacted positively on the well-being of residents of the community.The chairman of the association, Mr Fola Akodu, said that the association in collaboration with Sagamu Community Development Council, was striving to ensure continuous improvement in the community.Lafarge, according to the organisers, was honoured for its notable contribution to the growth and development of the Sagamu community.Akodu added that the company had over the years remained a source of inspiration and encouragement to its host community, therefore merited the award.He said that the company was the first to receive such award from the community.He urged other big companies in the community to emulate Larfarge gesture in its developmental project.The Head of Commucations, Larfarge Cement WAPCO, Mrs Tope Oguntokun, commended the organisers for honouring the company and added that the award would spur it to do more. She said, "We also appreciate the fact that the community recognises us. On our own we cannot recognise ourselves. It is to the credit of the organisation,' she said.
