Eket LG boss commends NTA on community stations

The Chairman, EketLocal GovernmentArea of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Aniekan Akpan, has commended the management of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for expanding its services to accommodate rural dwellers .The chairman made the observation in Eket recently, while receiving the management team of the station led by Mr Aniefiok Obot .The local government administration pledged to support the new NTA station , Channel 35 Eket, scheduled to commence transmission soon.He said the visit would enable the local government get acquainted with the challenges militating against the immediate take off of transmission at the station.He urged the station to publicise government activities and programmes within Eket as it would be a source offirst hand information to rural dwellers.He appealed to the management of the station to create programmes that would promote the culture and identity of the people through the use of indigenous language peculiar to Eket people.Earlier, the Station Manager, Obot said that when operational, the television station would serve as a means of fostering unity in the community and provide the people the outlet to express their grievances.Obot added that the station would provide education through enlightenment and information on government activities and programmes for the masses.He listed items required for the immediate transmission from the station to include editing suites, recording systems, studio cameras and cameras for news coverage, among others.According to him, the station has taken delivery of one transmitter and two 100 KVA generators, and solicited for assistance from the council.
