Nigerian footballer, Bobsam Elejiko, dies in Belgium

A NIGERIAN defender, Bobsam Elejiko, slumped and died on Sunday during a match in Belgium.The Lagos-born Elejiko, who has featured for several lowly Belgian clubs, including Turnhout, Royal Antwerp and Deinze, died during a game involving his club Merksem against Kaart.The cause of the 30-year-old Elejiko's death has not been made public, but the big central defender has a history of heart problems.He slumped during the game and attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.The match was abandoned after Elejiko's death.'With deep sadness we announce the sudden death of Bobsam Elejiko,' Merksem said in a statement.Four years ago, the former Stores of Lagos player, nicknamed 'Master,' returned to Nigeria to seek spiritual healing for his heart problem and afterwards said he has been completely cured.The player, best remembered for playing for KVC Westerlo in the Belgian top flight, said after the spiritual healing: 'Yes, I underwent series of medical tests by my specialist, Dr. Pedro Bogada and it was positive.'The type of test I underwent was termed 'Cardiogram tests,' which checked my heartbeat and the flow of blood to my heart and I passed the test.'After that, I was taken to some kind of machines and had a lot of wires fixed all over my body. My speed was tested too and it was okay.'After all that, the doctor said I was fit to start playing football again.
