Kwara traditional rulers promise to maintain peace, security in their domain

TRADITIONAL rulers in Kwara State have promised to maintain absolute peace and security in their various domain. The royal fathers made the pledge, on Tuesday, when the state Council of Chiefs, led by its chairman and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari, paid the governor a solidarity visit at the Government House, Ilorin, on his recent victory at the state governorship election petitions tribunal, which upheld his election.Alhaji Gambari, who spoke on behalf of other traditional rulers, expressed confidence in the ability of Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed to make the state the envy of others, which he said had again been reaffirmed by the tribunal's pronouncement.The traditional ruler, who commended the current administration on the development activities being embarked upon, urged him to strive harder for more.Also speaking, Governor Ahmed thanked the royal fathers for stabilising the body politic in the state and commended them for playing critical roles in the area of security of lives and property.The governor, who advocated that the roles of traditional rulers be institutionalised to serve as complementary in driving government to the desired level, stressed the need for such roles to be constitutionally recognised.He specifically enjoined the traditional rulers to remain committed to ensuring peace and security in their respective domains, pointing out that no meaningful development could be achieved in an unsecured environment, no matter how benevolent the government was.Governor Ahmed, who also expressed appreciation to God for seeing him through at the tribunal and the royal fathers for the solidarity, assured them that government would continue to provide all necessary support to make them comfortable to play complementary roles of driving government
