TEXTING INTO TROUBLE

Published by Tribune on Wed, 16 Nov 2011

ATTAHIRU Umar Sade was in love. He lived in Bauchi and his heart was bursting with love. But it was forbidden love. The woman he loved belonged to another man. And bad luck for Sade, she was a woman happy in love. She told her husband about Sade's attentionsTHE woman's husband believed Sade was a very dangerous man and tried to hide her away from him. No, it was not because he feared that Sade's persistence might win his wife's heart. Men are too proud to think such demeaning thoughts. He merely moved house to put a good distance between his wife and the ruffian.SADE was not to be that easily defeated. He got the woman's phone number and texted her N500 phone credit. The woman subscribes to Airtel and the man hit the roof. He went to the police and Sade was arrested.THE man's name is Bello and he may not have been happy that Sade was granted bail. He hired two lawyers and Sade was taken before a magistrate. He was charged with criminal trespass, lurking around, house trespass and enticing a married woman.HOUSE trespass' Sade had merely asked the woman on the phone if her husband was at home. Enticing a married woman with a mere N500 phone credit' Surely this is a terrible insult to women'THE magistrate sent Sade to prison for four years for making a pass at another man's wife. The magistrate is said to be a well read man. He must have believed the Sade before him was the Marquis de Sade, the French who wrote Crimes of Passion (1800).
