Ethiope West lift ASCON Oil trophy

Ethiope West have been crowned the winners of the ASCON Oil U-17 Championship after beating Aniocha South 1-0 to with the N500,000 cash prize.The competition was for the discovery of talented players who will be nurtured to greater heights in their football career.Earlier before the match, eye brows were raised by officials of the Oshimili North LGA, who, frustrated by their ouster in the semi-final stage, tried to beat up sentiment about the legitimacy of players appearing in the final. That led to the disqualification of five key players from the Ethiope team. Rather than distract them, the Ethiope team led by coach Jolomi Ali, took the battle to their opponents from the blast of the whistle. Their early incursions were well read by a solid Aniocha defence marshalled by Chinedu Ofuogu and Christian Umeiru. But a defensive error created room for danger man Joseph Willy who bagged the only goal of the game.Aniocha South landed the runners up trophy and N250,000, while Oshimili North went home with N150,000 and a trophy. Fourth-placed Isoko South got the sum of N100,000.
