Community gives bursary awards to 82 indigent students

The Sangama community in Asari Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, has awarded N4 million bursary to 82 indigent students.Chief Jenye Omonigbolo, the Chairman, Sangama Community Trust, made the announcement recently at the inauguration of the bursary award and mass transit buses for the area.He said the scheme, which started in the 2008/2009 academic session, was to encourage parents and students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.Omonigbolo, represented by the Secretary of the Sangama Community Development Association, Mr Tom Braide, said that 44 students benefitted from the scheme in the 2008/2009 academic session and 55 in the 2009/2010 academic session.Each of the 82 students received N50,000.Omonigbo said that the three mass transit buses would be used to generate revenue for the development of the community.The chairman of the occasion, Chief Tam Princewill, advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the bursary for the development of their academic career.He also advised the community to put the mass transit buses into good use and not to deploy them to promote personal enterprises.
