Not everyone can say that in the space of seven years, he has been able to create a worldwide internet service, win an expensive lawsuit concerning the ownership rights, have a film made about it all and still be on their feet standing. Yet, the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, has managed to do just that. What started as a pass time experiment in a university dormitory is now the biggest social networking platform of its time There is no point in asking why Facebook is so popular. Nobody really knows why we spend hours on end checking our news feeds for notifications which really add no value to our lives whatsoever. We just do, and with more than 800million users clicking on the shiny 'log in' button every day, it seems that we do it in vast quantities too. Figures speak for themselves and it would not be surprising if Zuckerberg was feeling just a bit smug right about now. Nevertheless, will he get away with being the cockiest rooster in the cyber world forever' With the recent rise of other social networks, dare I say it; he may have to stop his crowing sooner than he thinks. 'But what could ever replace this great site'' I hear you avid Facebook fans screaming. Well wasn't that what they said about MySpace' If you are reading this article and do not know or have forgotten what that is, then it serves to prove my point exactly. Furthermore, a few years ago, who would have thought writing updates on your life such as what you had for breakfast in 140 characters would catch on, yet this is the service that Twitter has provided us. Let's not forget Google's latest answer to social networking which has also been predicted to create a storm in the web sphere Now, Zuckerberg is a clever man. I doubt he will let his internet title be taken away from him without a technologically fancy fight. The recent update to the Facebook layout suggests this. However, there are many gimmicks we users can take before we get bored. I am hearing a steady number of my friends insisting that the website has become 'too intrusive' and the number of people I notice updating their profiles is slowly dwindling. Before you speed off to delete your account however, hold your internet fingers as I don't think the site is going to completely die out, well not just yet anyway. This is because Facebook is like an annoying sibling; you can't live with it, you can't live without it. Although users may be complaining that they are fed up with it, as long as there is a home page button to refresh, they will always come running back. Besides, I would be lying if I told you that as I wrote this article, I wasn't logged into Facebook myself!
