Tetiary Games: AOCOED beat NIJ

The defending champions of the Lagos State All Tertiary Games, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, on Thursday defeated the Nigerian Institute of Journalism 1-0 at the Yaba College of Technology football playing ground.The game, which attracted a large spectatorship, ended goalless in the first half despite the numerous chances created by NIJ in the period.AOCOED, in the 34th minute were denied by NIJ goalkeeper, Akinwale Kasali, who parried the ball out of play.The defending champion controlled the second half with great display but it was NIJ that found the back of the net in the 74th minute through Famuyibo Eniola. The goal was disallowed for offside.A defensive error in the 90th minute, however, proved costly for the NIJ team as the champions ceased the opportunity to register the only goal of the game.NIJ head of delegation Mr. Chris Obodo said his team played well but had a defective midfield who could not connect the passes.Obodo added that much should be expected from the team on Saturday against St Augustine College of Education. AOCOED will play their second match on Monday against St Augustine.
