ICPC to probe Shekarau over N420m fraud

THE Independent Corrupt and Other Related Offences Commission is set to begin the probe of former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, over an alleged N420m fraud.Shekarau was the presidential candidate for All Nigerian Peoples Party in the April presidential elections.Although details of the investigation are still sketchy, our correspondent learnt on Thursday from ICPC sources that it was sequel to a petition by a Kano-based Non-Governmental Organisation, which alleged that the ex-governor mismanaged the fund while he was in office as the governor. When contacted, the spokesperson of the ICPC, Mr. Folu Olamiti, confirmed the planned investigation.He said, "Consequently, the acting Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Abdullahi Bako, had directed that the former governor be invited for questioning to answer questions relating to the issues raised in the petition."Shekarau was specifically accused of fraud, abuse of power, inflation of contract sums, double awards of contracts and other vices, in gross violation of the ICPC Act.
