ACN berates Senate over Bode-George confirmation

The Action Congress of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, has criticised the Senate for allegedly imposing Mrs. Roli Bode-George as the states representative on the National Population Commission.The party claimed that by that imposition, the Senate, particularly its leadership, showed it had an infinite capacity to trivialise important national issues with its bias for partisanship. In a statement by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the party said foisting Bode-George on the state amounted to sabotaging an important process due to partisan interests. It warned that the NPC was being set up to fail in Lagos by the imposition, saying Lagosians still insisted on the replacement of Bode-George as the state representative in the NPC. But the Peoples Democratic Party, Lagos Chapter, said the ACNs allegations were baseless. In a text message to our correspondent on Thursday, the Publicity Secretary, Lagos PDP, Mr. Gani Taofik, said the ACN had exposed its level of confusion and eccentrism. "They are a bunch of parochialists with selfish agenda. Indeed, the ACN has now exposed themselves to be confused and eccentric," Taofik stated.The ACN said, "We witnessed as the Senate leadership, acting out the scripts of the PDP, insisted in foisting someone that was neither nominated by the people nor the government of Lagos as our representative in the NPC, despite the stiff protest of our three senators and many other members of the Senate from other parts of Nigeria. "We want to state that the Senate leadership went ahead to impose Mrs. Roli Bode-George, who is the wife of a PDP leader on Lagos, when the process demands the recommendation of the representative by the Governor to the President. "We note that Governor Babatunde Fashola had written to the President on this issue and forwarded the authentic nominee of Lagos State, only for Bode-George to be nominated, not as a true representative of Lagos State, but as a political settlement to her husband."
