FG doles out N9.5b conditional cash transfer to Katsina

By Augustine Okezie, KatsinaThe Federal Government has doled out N9.5b to over 143,407 poor and vulnerable persons across 34 Local government areas of Katsina state as conditional cash transfer programme from inceptionThe Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Faruq disclosed this while flagging off cash grant for 6800 rural women in Katsina.She said its part of President Muhammadu Buharis ambitious program designed to rid off one million Nigerians out of poverty in the next ten years.She said:Katsina state has received a total of N9,562,205.00 from the Federal Government conditional cash transfer programs from inception to date, impacting the lives of over 143,407 poor and vulnerable persons in the state. The social register is expended to cater for poor households in Katsina state, and 12 local government councils are currently benefiting from the Intervention; these include, Bakori,Batagarawa, Baure, Bindawa, Dandume, Ingawa, Kaita, Kankara, Mani, Musawa, Rimi and Danmusa.Read Also:Build institutions to strengthen democracyPGF bossShe also noted the social intervention would continue to cater for more vulnerable households and the cash grant distribution to over 6800 women will include a cash grant of about N20,000 each to start up business and establish themselvesDeputy Governor, QS Manir Yakubu, thanked the Minister for bringing the Intervention to the state, assuring the state governments commitment to ensure the beneficiaries received what is meant for them.Yakubu, who spoke on behalf of Governor Aminu Bello Masari, also called on the benefitiaries to make judicious use of the grant given them to improve their living conditions.
