The 0.8-mile long tunnels to the other side of the building appear to be similarly illuminated.</p><div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en" data-cards="" data-conversation=""><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Tunnel Rave <a href="https://t.co/d3JKOIAsy7">pic.twitter.com/d3JKOIAsy7</a></p> The Boring Company (@boringcompany) <a href="https://twitter.com/mims/statuses/1334763332029464577'ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 4, 2020</a></blockquote><script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div><p></p><p>The system's set to open in January following a three-month delay, when the normally 15-minute walk will be reduced to about a minute, the city's visitors association <a href="https://press.lvcva.com/news-releases/all/new-and-noteworthy-in-las-vegas/s/1b8ca8db-0a6b-4093-ad78-db2c6a8ad409">said</a>. It'll be a much-needed proof of concept for the Boring Company after earlier planned projects in Los Angeles and Chicago fizzled out.</p><p>But while the flashy tunnels make for a fun trip from one end of a massive event space to the other, there's concern the project won't move nearly as many people as originally promised. <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2020/10/16/elon-musks-las-vegas-loop-might-only-carry-a-fraction-of-the-passengers-it-promised/">Documents obtained by TechCrunch in October show</a> a capacity of just 1,200 passengers per hour, well below the 4,400 target, due to fire regulations.</p><p>What's more, the Tesla vehicles transporting those conference-goers won't be autonomous as originally planned: "It's basically just Teslas in tunnels at this point," Musk <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1316258179689443328">said</a>in October.</p><p>It's not slowing the Boring Company down though. It recently took the first steps to getting <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-boring-co-las-vegas-loop-tunnel-map-proposal-2020-10">a network connecting the entire Las Vegas Strip</a> approved.</p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-boring-company-video-las-vegas-tunnel-project-rave-2020-12#comments">Join the conversation about this story &#187;</a></p> <p>NOW WATCH: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/worlds-most-expensive-liquid-thoroughbred-horse-semen-2020-3">Why thoroughbred horse semen is the world's most expensive liquid</a></p>
