Published by The Nation on Fri, 22 Jan 2021

By Nwanosike Onu, Awka Stakeholders of the three leading political parties in Anambra State have embraced the date set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the governorship election. An aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Valentine Ozigbo, and Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Sir Norbert Obi, said it makes room for adequate planning which will engender a smooth process.Governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Andy Uba, and party Chairman Basil Ejidike, also welcomed the early release by INEC.Ozigbo said: I am certain that the early release of the timetable would prevent any form of fire brigade approach. It would rather allow for well-planned and seamless electoral activities.Read Also: INEC fixes Nov 6 for Anambra pollConsidering the complexity, rancorous nature, sky-high interests involved in electioneering processes, and the unique political environment of Anambra State, it is worthwhile and laudable of INEC to bring the people up to speed on the its plans early enough.Ozigbo noted that the lengthy period between the primary election and the main election was a good omen and a pointer in the right direction. The salience of this situation, if achieved, is that voters will go to the polls with a clear mind of who the candidates are, he added.Uba and Ejidike said the real governorship battle had begun. They called on party members to take the ongoing registration seriously. Its a good job from INEC, and a way of keeping parties on their toes ahead of the November election. We have started mobilising our members in every local government and communities. With this time table from INEC, we are good to go, they said.
