The majority of transactions through delivery apps are done with a debit or credit card, or a third-party payment service like Apple Pay or PayPal.</p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/doordash" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DoorDash</a>, however, is an exception. All DoorDash drivers can take cash tips, and a sizable number of restaurants let you pay with cash too.</p><p>Here are two ways you can use cash for your DoorDash order. </p><h2>How DoorDash takes cash for deliveries</h2><p>When you're ordering a DoorDash delivery using the app or a web browser, you might see an option to pay in cash. It'll be listed in the "Payment" menu. This is called "Cash on Delivery." If you don't see this option, the restaurant doesn't take cash.</p><p>To pay for your order with cash, select this option and place your order. When the delivery driver arrives, pay them in cash. Be sure to have the exact amount, including tip, as DoorDash drivers won't always have change or be able to break large bills.</p><p><img src="https://static4.businessinsider.com/image/600b1c6c7d042e0011d29670-2400/5bb24f4001145579584214d3.jpeg" border="0" alt="pizza food delivery" data-mce-source="Getty Images"></p><p>If you don't have the exact amount of cash needed to pay for the order, it'll be cancelled and returned to the restaurant.</p><h2>How to tip your DoorDash delivery driver with cash </h2><p>While there is an option to tip using the DoorDash app before and after placing an order, DoorDash delivery drivers can also take tips in the form of cash. When checking out, enter "$0" for the tip amount using the "Other" option. When your DoorDash delivery driver arrives, hand them the cash, or perhaps leave it in a secure location for a contactless hand-off. </p><p>Lots of customers prefer leaving a tip in cash for their driver, <a href="https://mashable.com/article/doordash-tip-policy-cash-tips-in-app/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a gesture many drivers appreciate</a>. If DoorDash promised to pay a driver $10 for an order, and you tipped $6, DoorDash would only pay the driver $4they argued that the tip made up the rest of their pay. For a company valued near $15 billion at the end of 2020, this was seen as a sneaky way of underpaying drivers.</p><p>After fierce backlash, DoorDash <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/24/nyregion/doordash-tip-policy.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reversed its policy</a> and started providing drivers with the full tip amount.
