Published by The Nation on Sat, 13 Feb 2021

By Augustine Okezie, KatsinaNorthern-based organization: Arewa Youths Initiative for Peace and Good Leadership, have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to consider during appointments, young talented Nigerians and grant them opportunities to serve their fatherland, instead of what they termed recycling of old hands when making crucial appointments. The President of the Association, Ambassador Mohammed Rilwanu Katun, who made the above call during a chat with The Nation in katsina, also faulted the appointment of Ex-Service Chiefs as Non-Career Ambassadors, describing the action as emanating from the Presidents personal opinion and not that of Nigerians. He said We always watch with dismay most of the decisions being taken by the federal government without seeking the opinions and contributions of the citizens of this country.READ ALSO:Arewa youths tasks new Service ChiefsThe President could not have appointed ex-service chiefs as Ambassadors because its against the opinions of the majority of the citizens of this country. Our stands is that he should have given room to other patriotic citizens to also showcase their talents by discharging their service to the country because ex-chiefs are not the only patriotic citizens in the country.Young talented Nigerians should always be given opportunity to represent Nigeria globally regardless of their, region, ethnic or religious affinity, its the only way that will make Nigeria grow stronger and united. He called on the present administration to always shun taking appointment decisions that could threaten the unity of Nigeria.
