Senator presents materials to 86 Adamawa schools

Mindful of the crucial role education plays in the development of an individual and the society, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani) has said the future of Nigeria lay in effective and sound basic education.With sound and the right education, especially at the basic or foundational level, she said, all other levels will be easier for Nigerian students.Binani stated these at the presentation of multi-million naira instructional materials to the Education Secretaries of the seven local government areas for 87 schools in Adamawa Central Senatorial District.She said the scheme comprises 146 different interventions of instructional materials.The beneficiary schools of instructional materials were in Yola North (13), Yola South (13), Girei (9), Song (11), Gombi (11), Hong (14), and Fufore (13).The materials included customised exercise books, textbooks, sets of students customised tough plastic tables and chairs, Mathematics teaching kits and Mathematical sets.Others were packs of ballpoints, packs of pencil, whiteboards, furniture for teachers and school heads, LaserJet printers, desktop computers and power generating sets.Binani described the intervention as timely because basic education is essential to Nigerias development.She said: Our future lay in sound and effective Basic Education because it is the bedrock of learning. The moment we are able to get our Basic Education right, our future as a nation is guaranteed.This particular event is important and very dear to my heart as it aims at strengthening our basic education.I opted for massive interventions for pre-primary and primary schools in my district because this is where the future lay.I am launching 146 different interventions of instructional materials to address the gaps in our instructional materials. Without appropriate tools and environment conducive to teaching and learning, education will be meaningless.I advise all stakeholders to pay attention to Basic Education in order to build a solid structure for the Nigerian Education System.The Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal praised the Senator for the unprecedented representation.He said Binani has justified the confidence reposed in her with the senatorial mandate.The interventions came barely two weeks after the Senator distributed 406 sewing machines to women in the seven local government areas.
