The woman who paid to fly a 'convict Trump' banner over Mar-a-Lago says she acted to stop a 'dictator

<p><img src="https://static4.businessinsider.com/image/5fd9f9841803a80018adfb90-1976/trump mar-a-lago.jpg" border="0" alt="trump mar a lago" data-mce-source="Getty"></p><p></p><bi-shortcode id="summary-shortcode" data-type="summary-shortcode" class="mceNonEditable" contenteditable="false">Summary List Placement</bi-shortcode><p>A woman who paid for a banner calling for Trump to be locked up, to be flown over his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, said she did so because she believed the former president is a "dictator" that needed to be stopped.</p><p>The woman in question spoke to HuffPost anonymously after paying for two aerial banners calling for Trump's conviction ahead of his impeachment trial in the Senate last week, where he was ultimately acquitted.</p><p>One sign which flew over Mar-a-Lago, read "Convict Trump and lock him up" while another flew over the Daytona International Speedway in Florida reading "GOP grow a spine and expel Trump."</p><biembeddedobject id="85f1a662-e2f5-4870-a9f0-7683f72651c1" class="twitter mceNonEditable" style="width: 600px; height: 200px;">Tweet Embed: <br>//twitter.com/mims/statuses/1360651240418529281'ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw <br>Third attack banner trolls Donald Trump from the Florida skies. <a href="https://t.co/7FN3ed5lDq">https://t.co/7FN3ed5lDq</a> via <a href="https://twitter.com/HuffPostPol'ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@HuffPostPol</a></biembeddedobject><p>"When Trump started <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-negotiate-third-term-in-office-2020-9'r=US&amp;IR=T">talking about a third term</a> and then <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-first-speech-gop-republican-convention-lies-2020-8'r=US&amp;IR=T">started a chant at a rally of '12 more years,'</a> I thought: "That's it. That's a dictator,'" the woman, whose identity was confirmed by the airline company which flew the banners, told HuffPost.</p><p>"My parents immigrated from Cuba in the 1960s. They know what a dictator looks like. Trump and his supporters are authoritarian, completely offensive; they stand for what's completely contradictory to this country's ideals."</p><p>She said that she contacted Aerial Messages, the Florida company which was responsible for flying the aerial banners, and said the firm's chief executive Remy Colin was "really enthusiastic" about the project.</p><p>Ultimately the messages did not work: The Senate failed to find the two-thirds majority required to convict Trump of impeachment charges, which were related to the deadly Capitol riot on January 6.</p><biembeddedobject id="a485c8de-a831-4567-bd47-c0e3ea26310c" class="twitter mceNonEditable" style="width: 600px; height: 200px;">Tweet Embed: <br>//twitter.com/mims/statuses/1353429639356624897'ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw <br>Trump is getting warm welcome from the skies near Mar-a-lago today <a href="https://t.co/S6uUFx3t30">pic.twitter.com/S6uUFx3t30</a></biembeddedobject><p>Trump has faced fierce opposition from some locals to his decision to live in Florida after leaving the White House. His neighbors in January took legal action requesting that Palm Beach authorities instruct the president to live elsewhere on the grounds that the resort was a members' club which did not allow for permanent residents.</p><p>Officials said they would reach a decision in April, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-living-mar-a-lago-palm-beach-town-council-lawyers-2021-2'r=US&amp;IR=T">Insider's Jacob Shamsian reported</a>.</p><p>Two other anti-Trump banners were also trailed over the former president's Mar-A-Lago resort in January.
