FG engages 86 youths in Ondo to monitor SIP

By Osagie Otabor, AkureA total of 86 youths across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State have been engaged by the federal government to help monitor implementation of its various Social Intervention Programme (SIP).The 86 youths are expected to work in their various communities to prevent diversion of whatever aid meant for beneficiaries.Speaking at a one day training workshop for the 86 independent Monitors, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk, warned the independent Monitors against collaborating to divert fund meant for the poor.Farouk who was represented by Kemisola Oluwasetemi, disclosed that 13 million Nigerians are currently benefitting from different intervention programmes of President Mohammadu Buhari.She stated that the independent Monitors were engaged because of planned expansion of the SIP.According to her, We are bringing on board 86 independent monitors in Ondo State across the 18 local government to monitor these federal government intervention projects.Read Also; FG trains independent monitors for National Social Investment Programs in Cross RiverThey will be reporting to the Ministry of Human Affairs, Disaster management and Social Development every month. They will monitor these programmes at the community level.We will give them more training but they will be closely supervised by the Ministry officials.Farouk charged them to carry out the responsibility with utmost integrity and wanted them against conniving with those to implement the programme.She said, For any corruption to take place, they have to connive with you to carry out the act. You should not aid corruption.When you are targeting millions of people, there are people that will not be truthful. They will want to divert money or food meant for childrenTo guide against that, we are bringing in these independent Monitors to ensure they monitor people that will be carrying out these intervention to divert guard against diversion of the intervention.The Focal person in Ondo State, Mrs. Olubumi Ademosun, said the selection was thorough.Ademosun noted that if he youth took the various empowerment programme serious, poverty would be eradicated.The scope of this programme is large. We want to bring many Nigerians out of poverty. You are lucky to be part of 5000 selected across the country.Do not think about the money. Do the job well. Whatever you find to do, do it well. Let us work to see this programme takes people out of poverty.
