Governors: NAFDAC must guarantee efficicacy

By Eric Ikhilae, AbujaGovernors of the 36 states yesterday said they would provide facilities for the storage and protection of the COVID-19 vaccine to be allocated to their states.They said they would take the vaccine openly once theNational Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) ascertains its efficacy.At a virtual meeting of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), the states helmsmen agreed to adopt all guidelines put in place by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA).NGF Head, Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, said the governors agreed to take the vaccine, along with their deputies, on Wednesday.The governors, who pledged to sensitise their citizens, agreed that the vaccines should first be given to healthcare workers and the elderly.Bello-Barkindo said: Governors commit to working with the Federal Government to ensure required cold-chain set-up, trained personnel and security of the vaccine rollout is in place.Citizens are encouraged to use the e-registeration portal on the NPHCDA website nphcsaict.com.ng/publicreg, he said.Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire; the Director-General of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu and the Executive Director of NPHCDA, Faisal Shuaib, also attended the meeting.
