I grew up in a very small town in southern West Virginia as a mixed-race child, and my single mom was a teenager when she had my brother and me. I didn't even know what a shaman was. But I was having spiritual experiences all my life.

When I was two or three, I told my mom all about my previous life in ancient Egypt, and I would walk her throughstep by stephow to mummify my body if I died.

I also remember just knowing about people. For the most part, I kept them hiddenor I just didn't focus on them, or talk about them.

But when I was 12 someone gifted me a tarot deck, and I started reading tarot intuitively. I pursued a pre-med path in college, and my fallback was business and marketing in case I didn't want to continue.

SEE ALSO: Meet 23 career coaches who helped shape leaders into stars at the likes of Goldman Sachs and Google

I gave birth to my son in my senior year of college. My pregnancy was really difficult. I decided not to go to med school, and first worked at Target as a manager, then ended up going into direct sales at a company called Pure Romance.

That allowed me to be home with my son full-time, and go and do parties in the evening.

I found a lot of success really quickly. You're getting to go on all of these free trips, and you're getting the designer handbags, and all of the glory, and I realized that all of it felt really hollow still.

So that was when I began to ask why so many of us chase success, and why we're always looking for the next goal.

From 2014, I spent three years traveling back and forth to West Africa while still working in direct sales.

I began to see that my calling was something much bigger.

I went through my initiation to become a shaman in September 2018. It took approximately six months, and includes strict protocol around diet restriction, such as no sugar or dairy and lifestyle requirements, like waking up at 3 a.m. to cleanse in herbs and cold water.

There are also ceremonies, training and testing in how to perform divination, enter a trance, and find hidden objects.

A shaman is someone who in a variety of ways bridges the physical and non-physical realms. The process was really about de-conditioning the way I view the world. There's a series of tests and trials you have to pass in order to receive the title of "Makhosi."

SEE ALSO: Even bosses need coachinghere are 4 tricks that make managers better at their jobs

I was initiated by my gobela, Makhosi Karen Singh, and witnessed by my spiritual grandmother, Gogo Phakathi, who was one of the first white sangomasa traditional spiritual healer.

When I came back to America, I was like, 'Hey, I'm doing readings." That's where I started. I got my feet wet, and then slowly it began to increase. When it really became viable, was in the last nine or 10 months.

Before COVID-19, I was doing individual readings for clients in real estate and HR, among others. That was bringing in around $2,000 or $3,000 a month. But when the pandemic hit, about half disappeared right away, because everyone panicked and budgets shrank.

I began offering individual readings on a pay-what-you-can basis. When everything happened with George Floyd and Black Lives Matter, there was this real opening for someone who was a woman of color and also could provide spiritual guidance. I started being invited onto podcasts. That ultimately catapulted me into working closer with some more high-level, elite entrepreneurs.

"What's important to me' Am I living my purpose'" I began assisting in guiding people back to having more purpose, and experiencing more prosperity in the process.

I now tend to work mostly with entrepreneurs looking to maximize their potential. I am truly the tool; I simply activate whatever it is that spirit wishes to be the medium. My clients tend to be what I would call already at least a little "woowoo." They probably meditate already.

In four weeks from mid-February to mid-March, we did something like $150,000.

SEE ALSO: I left my $500,000-a-year job in tech after starting my own thriving coaching business.
