<p><img src="https://static4.businessinsider.com/image/6065bc8e6183e10019819b22-2400/cvs-health-covid-19-vaccine-media-gallery-image-05.jpg" border="0" alt="CVS vaccine covid" data-mce-source="CVS"></p><p></p><bi-shortcode id="summary-shortcode" data-type="summary-shortcode" class="mceNonEditable" contenteditable="false">Summary List Placement</bi-shortcode><p>CVS just surpassed 10 million COVID-19 vaccine doses given to people in the US.</p><p>The company announced April 1 it had given more than 10 million vaccine shots in about 2,000 stores across 44 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, DC. </p><p>CVS said it now has the capacity to administer up to 25 million shots per month.</p><p>The US has administered at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to 97,226,718 adultsor 37% of the populationas of Thursday. The White House announced this week <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/half-of-all-us-seniors-received-a-covid-19-vaccine-2021-3">more than half of all seniors</a> are fully vaccinated against the disease.</p><p>"We're working hard to help America fight COVID-19 by breaking down barriers to equitable health care, especially in communities suffering most during the pandemic," CEO Karen Lynch said in a <a href="https://cvshealth.com/news-and-insights/press-releases/cvs-health-surpasses-10-million-covid-19-vaccine-doses">release</a>.</p><p><em><strong>Read more: </strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-chief-medical-officer-dr-thomas-van-gilder-is-leaving-2021-3" data-e2e-name="inline-read-more-link">A top Walmart healthcare exec is leaving the retail giant</a></em></p><p>Black, Hispanic, and Native American individuals represent 34% of all in-store vaccine appointments, CVS said, a 12% increase its stores' baseline community representation for those groups. Experts said Black people had received <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-black-latino-poc-are-getting-fewer-covid-19-vaccines-2021-2">fewer initial doses</a> of the COVID-19 vaccine due to few sites in neighborhoods of color and lack of community outreach.</p><p>In February, the US authorized thousands of pharmacies to administer COVID-19 vaccine doses <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/where-to-get-covid-vaccine-cvs-walgreens-pharmacy-local-2021-2">free of charge</a>.
