Garba Shehu dismisses reports that Buhari removed fuel subsidy so as to pitch Nigerians against Tinubu

Published by Linda Ikeji on Wed, 02 Jul 2025

A former Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has dismissed reports claiming that Buhari deliberately removed fuel subsidy towards the end of his administration to pit Nigerians against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.Shehu stated this in Abuja on Tuesday, July 1.Some Nigerians had claimed that Buhari had delayed the removal of fuel subsidies until the last national budget, when he was on the verge of exiting power in 2023, to pit Nigerians against President Tinubu, who, in his inaugural speech, announced that the fuel subsidy regime was gone.Following the announcement, there were a number of repercussions, such as higher fuel and food prices as well as increased transportation costs. In his address to the press on Tuesday, Shehu said those insinuations were wrong, stressing that Subsidy removal was not planned to undermine the President Tinubu-led government. Both President Buhari and the incoming President, Bola Tinubu were members of the APC. So we couldnt have planned to sabotage our own government.President Buhari was above corruption. He came to government with integrity and left with his integrity intact. He did his best. He did well for the country and history will be kind to him. President Buhari wasnt a show man. He wanted his works to impact on Nigerians. The post Garba Shehu dismisses reports that Buhari removed fuel subsidy so as to pitch Nigerians against Tinubu appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
