ADC: Crowd Out & Pick Your Candidate, Nobody Will Be Handpicked - Abdullahi

Published by Nairaland on Sat, 12 Jul 2025

The African Democratic Congress, ADC has restated its commitment to not impose any person as Presidential Candidate for the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on X spaces in reaction to a question on how the ADC intends to bring forth a candidate that will excite Nigerians, the interim National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Bolaji Abdullahi had this to say:

For the issue of providing a candidate, we will not handpick, we must not impose. That's what other parties did that led us to where we are. People should join the ADC, young people should join the ADC and get the membership cards because it is only members that will vote. Let us mobilise in large numbers to the extent that we can ensure our preferred candidate, that we think can energise the public, is able to win the election at the Primaries. If we don't do that and any other aspirant or candidate wins, fine but we will not impose or handpick anybody, otherwise, we will not be different from other parties we are leaving. So, let's crowd out and vote for the individual that will excite Nigerians at not just the Primary but at the poll.

Democracy comes with its own price and it comes at a cost. Our aim is not just to grab power but to institutionalise democracy.

Abdullahi was further quizzed to dissuade the skepticism on persons saying if Wike can do it, we will also remain in our Party and support the candidate of the ADC.. Hear Abdullahi;

I understand the skepticism, but at the request of some of our leaders, like Nasir El-Rufai (SDP) and His Excellency Peter Obi (LP), they have candidates who are vying for offices either Local Government, Governorship or bye-elections in their parties. For example, when Mallam El-Rufai went to the SDP, his supporters also followed him there and are also contesting for some offices.
