Lagos Blackouts: Affected Areas And How To Prepare

<b>_Lagos will experience scheduled power outages every weekday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from July 28 to August 21, 2025._</b><br><br> [<blockquote>i]_The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO) have approved a maintenance upgrade of the OmotoshoIkeja West 330kV transmission line by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).[/i]<br><br> _This upgrade involves installing Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cable and will affect the bulk power supply across many parts of the city.<br><br><br><b>The following districts and suburbs will see power cuts during the work hours listed above:<br><br>Ojodu<br>OkeIra<br>Agidingbi<br>Omole Phase1 &amp;2<br>Iju<br>Berger<br>Magodo Phase1 &amp;2<br>Ketu<br>Oregun<br>Ojota<br>Parts of Agege<br>Ifako<br>Abule Egba<br>Ojo<br>Ikeja<br>Oshodi<br>Ayobo<br>Alimosho<br>Ogba<br>Alausa<br>Ejigbo</b><br><br><i>Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) have warned their customers that they may also face irregular supply as a knockon effect of the TCN maintenance.</i><br><br><br>The OmotoshoIkeja West 330kV line carries bulk power from the Omotosho Power Station in Ondo State to the main transmission hub in Ikeja, Lagos. Upgrading this vital corridor with fibreoptic grounding wire will improve grid stability, reduce future faults and enhance data communications for the power network.<br><br><b> *How to Cope with Daily NineHour Outages* </b><br><br><br> *Keep Your Fridge Cold<br>Fill iceblock trays or freezer bags with water before the outage. This will help maintain low temperatures and protect perishable food.<br>Use a Generator<br><b>A small generator can power essential appliances during the blackout. Expect fuel costs around 10,000 per day, depending on generator size and load.</b><br><br><b>Consider Solar Inverters</b><br><br>A solarcharged inverter or battery backup can run lights, fans and small devices. Basic inverters cost from 50,000, while complete solar setups range from 1million to 5million.<br>Charge Phones and Laptops in Advance<br>Charge devices at work or school before returning home.
