Biden sets a new goal of having at least 70% of adults partially vaccinated by July 4

<p><img src="https://static5.businessinsider.com/image/60918ad2f22c6b00185db9a1-2000/Joe Biden.jpg" border="0" alt="Joe Biden" data-mce-source="Mandel Ngan/AFP via Getty Images" data-mce-caption="President Joe Biden is proposing a $2.2 trillion infrastructure and tax bill."></p><p></p><bi-shortcode id="summary-shortcode" data-type="summary-shortcode" class="mceNonEditable" contenteditable="false">Summary List Placement</bi-shortcode><p>President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced a new goal to have 70% of adults in the US at least partially vaccinated by the Fourth of July.</p><p>"In the next phase of the vaccination campaign, the Administration will make getting vaccinated more accessible than ever before, continuing to increase people's confidence in the vaccines and ensuring that everyone is reached in the response," The White House said in a news release announcing the goal.</p><p>The push for more inoculations comes as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/covid-vaccine-us-vaccination-sites-joe-biden-2021-4">vaccination rates are slowing across the country</a> in the face of vaccine hesitancy and misinformation.</p><p>Biden on Tuesday will direct funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to create and support pop-up vaccination clinics, "smaller community vaccination sites," mobile clinics, and increase the allotment of the vaccine to health clinics in rural communities.</p><p>About $250 million in federal funding will be provided to community-based organizations for community outreach and engagement in hard-hit communities, the White House announced.</p><p>Some funds will be allocated Tuesday, while others will be allocated in the middle of May, according to the White House.</p><p>The federal government will allocate $130 million to improve vaccine education in underserved communities, the White House said. It will also provide another $250 million to state, territorial, and some city governments, to assist their vaccine outreach efforts.</p><p>It also Tuesday announced that Biden intends to get adolescents vaccinated "as soon as possible" so long as the US Food and Drug Administration issues an emergency use <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fda-authorize-pfizer-vaccine-12-15-years-next-week-nyt-2021-5">authorization for the vaccines for people under the age of 16</a> and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends their use.</p><p>The White House also announced a cross-agency effort, including the office of the Surgeon General, the CDC, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to educate teenagers and their parents about vaccination.</p><p>The White House said Biden will direct pharmacies and state-run vaccination centers to offer walk-in availability to make getting a vaccine more convenient.&nbsp;</p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-vaccine-goal-july-4-70-of-adults-vaccinated-2021-5#comments">Join the conversation about this story &#187;</a></p> <p>NOW WATCH: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doomsday-prepper-million-dollar-condo-converted-missile-silo-2019-3">Inside a $3 million doomsday condo that can sustain 75 people for 5 years</a></p>
