Back in August, the company <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-sees-remarkable-shift-in-shopper-behavior-as-sales-surge-2020-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> soaring sales compared with last year, with e-commerce sales nearly doubling.</p><p>On Thursday, the company announced that it will launch <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-tiktok-products-live-stream-ecommerce-2020-12">livestream shopping</a> on video-focused social media platform TikTok. Previously, Walmart announced its intent to purchase a 7.5% stake in TikTok.</p><p>The chain also launched its Amazon Prime competitor, <a href="https://goto.walmart.com/c/196318/565706/9383'veh=aff&sourceid=imp_000011112222333344&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.walmart.com%2Fplus&subid2=1597849318764a3esu6n99&subId3=xid:fr1597849322731jje" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored nofollow sponsored" data-analytics-module="summary_bullets" data-analytics-post-depth="0" data-orig-url="https://goto.walmart.com/c/196318/565706/9383'veh=aff&sourceid=imp_000011112222333344&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.walmart.com%2Fplus&subid2=1597849318764a3esu6n99" data-ml-id="3" data-ml="true" data-xid="fr1597849322731jje">Walmart Plus</a>, in September. CEO Doug McMillon <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-ceo-addresses-buzz-about-amazon-prime-rival-walmart-plus-2020-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the new subscription service would provide the chain with a wealth of shopper-behavior data.</p><p>Business Insider analyzed the US Office of Foreign Labor Certification's 2020 disclosure data for permanent and temporary foreign workers to see how much Walmart paid employees for various tech-focused roles in different categories. <a href="https://www.foreignlaborcert.doleta.gov/performancedata.cfm" data-analytics-module="body_link" data-analytics-post-depth="40">The Office of Foreign Labor Certification discloses salary data</a> each year after US companies report how much base compensation workers are offered when filing paperwork for visas on behalf of current or prospective foreign workers.</p><p>For the US, Walmart applied for 59 H-1B visas for these and other roles. Listed jobs were in multiple states across the US. Walmart did not return a request for comment for this story.</p><p>In general, Walmart's tech salaries are similar to those in other <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-big-tech-faang-companies-pay-salaries-google-amazon-2020-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-analytics-module="body_link" data-analytics-post-depth="60">tech-focused industries</a>. For example, software engineers' base salaries at <a href="https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Google-Senior-Software-Engineer-Salaries-E9079_D_KO7,31.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-analytics-module="body_link" data-analytics-post-depth="60">Google</a> and <a href="https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Amazon-Senior-Software-Engineer-Salaries-E6036_D_KO7,31.htm#:~:text=The%20typical%20Amazon%20Senior%20Software,estimated%20based%20upon%20statistical%20methods." target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-analytics-module="body_link" data-analytics-post-depth="60">Amazon</a> is generally about $177,933 and $155,086, respectively, according to Glassdoor. At Walmart, senior software engineers can make between $122,400 and $170,000.</p><p>In other cases, similar job descriptions for Walmart and other companies appear to have a bit more disparity in pay.
