Here's what we know about who will get a 2nd stimulus check

The bill is expected to be approved by both houses of Congress and the president on Monday.</p><p>The $900 billion package contains aid for schools, universities, and small businesses, emergency rental assistance, a $300 weekly extension to federal unemployment benefits, and $600 one-time cash payments to Americans, known as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/second-stimulus-check" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stimulus checks</a>.</p><h2>Who gets a stimulus check'</h2><p>You do not have to sign up to receive a stimulus check. As with the first round of checks, the process is automatic for most Americans who qualify.</p><p>This time around, however, adults and children will receive the same amount. Individuals earning more than $75,000 and less than $99,000 will receive a reduced payment, as will couples earning more than $150,000 and less than $198,000.</li><li>Are an adult who is not claimed as a dependent by anyone else.</li></ul><p>Many top Democratic lawmakers believe the $600 direct cash payments are insufficient. During negotiations, a group of 17 progressive Democrats signed a letter to congressional leadership urging for $2,000 stimulus checks, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stimulus-checks-2000-dollar-progressive-democrats-pushing-coronavirus-economic-relief-2020-12" data-analytics-module="body_link" data-analytics-post-depth="40">Business Insider's Joseph Zeballos-Roig reported</a>.
