Omo-Agege preaches tolerance at Christmas

Published by The Nation on Thu, 24 Dec 2020

Sanni Onogu, AbujaThe Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has urged Nigerians to use the occasion of the Yuletide celebrations to renew their commitment to the promotion of values of tolerance, brotherhood and unity among all groups in the country. In his Christmas message, Senator Omo-Agege also called on Christians to imbibe the virtues of humility and love which are the hallmarks of the birth of Jesus Christ. The Christmas celebration, he noted, offers Nigerians the opportunity to reflect on Gods love and compassion for man as epitomized in the gift of His only begotten son for mans salvation. He said such reflections would help Nigerians understand why they should respect rights and privileges as enshrined in the Constitution, especially the right to life and enjoy peaceful co-existence with their neighbours.READ ALSO:Gender-based violence rooted in gender inequalitiesOmo-AgegeThe lawmaker stated that Gods purpose of sending Jesus Christ into the world is to bring salvation to humanity, an action that demonstrates His love for mankind.According to him, if all Nigerians allow these virtues to guide their daily lives, society will experience less acrimony, criminality, terrorism, war and other social ills confronting our world today. He said: Christmas brings a powerful message: a call for all Christians to reach out to others, be our brothers keepers, forgive and let the light of our good deeds shine for all through care for the sick, the hungry, the downtrodden and others at the verge of despair. There is much more to be done and as we celebrate Christmas now. I urge all my constituents and all those supporting us in all parts of Nigeria to embrace the message of unity and hope that we all need very much today, as we march towards a great future.
