Alex Rodriguez Facing $100 Million Civil Suit from Ex-Brother-in-Law

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 27 Aug 2015

New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez is facing legal trouble stemming from a prior business arrangement with his ex-brother-in-law.According to the New York Daily News' Christian Red,Constantine Scurtiswho is the younger brother of Rodriguez's ex-wifeis suing Rodriguez for $100 million after the Yankees designated hitter allegedly used the duo's joint real estate venture to commit mortgage and insurance fraud."This is the last thing in the world I want to do," Scurtis said, per Red. "I have a very positive career going on right now. It's not good to be involved in litigation in the business I'm in. I'm not trying to draw attention to myself. But what's right is right."The Daily News reported Scurtis' claim was processed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court late Wednesday, the timing of which looks like a strategic move aimed to "exploit the media to (Scurtis) advantage," said John C. Lukacs Sr., Rodriguez's attorney. While bad blood appears to be defining the relationship between Rodriguez and Scurtis with a legal battle ahead, the Daily News passed along a compelling 2008 text message reportedly from the Yankee slugger:Taki, I am sorry things Went down this way. I have the utmost Respect for you and Have a lot a lot of Love for you. I know I handled your Deal wrongly. I hope to have a long Calm, loving discussion Over lunch. Me and you alone. I also, do not believe This is the end for us.The claims against Rodriguez are numerous and complex and can be viewed in fullalong with a copy of the formal legal complainthere.
