Artie Burns to Steelers: Twitter Reacts as CB Is Selected in 2016 NFL Draft

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 29 Apr 2016

In desperate need of help in the secondary, the Pittsburgh Steelers sat idly by and watched almost every player they were linked to come off the board. They'll have to hope taking a risk on cornerback Artie Burns on Thursday night will pay off. The Steelers used the No. 25 overall selection in the 2016 NFL draft on Burns in a move some evaluators will view as a bit of a reach. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller had Burns as his 49th-best player and thesixth-best cornerback.Suffice it to say, Pro Football Focus was not a fan of the selection:Burns, 20, had a breakout junior season at Miami. He recorded 36 tackles and made six interceptions on his way to being a second-team All-ACC selection. Drew Magary of Deadspin pointed out there was one more thing to like about Burns from the Steelers' perspective: his name:Speaking of names, well, this is absolutely true:If Pittsburgh was looking for someone with all the physical skills, Burns is a good selection. He measured in at 6'0"and was one of the best track athletes in his high school class. A 4.46-second 40-yard dash is good for his size, and he put together a good all-around workout at his pro day.Neal Coolong ofUSA Today thinks Burns can work long term:Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus isn't sold on the fit:One thing is clear: There are no character concerns when it comes to this kid, as Chris Adamski of thePittsburgh Tribune-Review pointed out:Here is a look at the rest of the best reactions:The Steelers had a need. They believe they filled it. There isn't much more to it than that. No one who watched the Steelers last season denies they need help at cornerback. Only two teams (New Orleans Saints, New York Giants) gave up more passing yards last year despite the fact the Steelers boasted one of the best pass rushes in football.Burns, they hope, will turn things around. Given his inconsistency at the college level, it'll be up to the coaching staff to ensure that happens.
