Arsene Wenger Contract: Latest News, Speculation and Rumours on Arsenal Boss

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 30 Jun 2016

Arsenal are reportedly preparing to offer manager Arsene Wenger a contract extension amid stories linking the Frenchman with the vacant England job.Continue for updates.New Deal Based on Team PerformanceThursday, June 30"Wenger will certainly see out the final year of his contract [at Arsenal] next season, but, speaking on Tuesday, FA chief executive Martin Glenn revealed hes prepared to wait up to year to ensure he appoints the right man [as Roy Hodgson's successor]," reported Sami Mokbel in theDaily Mail."But Arsenal are already looking towards opening talks over an extension to ensure he stays," added Mokbel. There is no guarantee Wenger will be offered a new deal by the Gunners, as many have speculated the 2016-17 season could his swansong in north London, with some fans riled by underperformance, per Matt Law in theTelegraph.A period of 12 years without a Premier League title win has left a vocal section of Arsenal supporters calling for a change of manager despite the immense success Wenger has brought the club in the past. However, per Mokbel, "owner Stan Kroenke is likely to sanction a new deal for Wenger" if Arsenal are doing well, and the 66-year-old would be "likely" to sign it.He has been at the club since 1996 and would thus be unlikely to take a job elsewhere unless he had time called on his Arsenal tenure. If the Gunners do not do well enough for Wenger to earn a new deal, though, the FA could swoop to appoint him as the new England boss, starting next summer. There is much speculation surrounding the roleafter Hodgson resigned following the Three Lions' Euro 2016 exit at the hands of minnows Iceland on Monday, with some, such asBBC Sport'sPhilMcNulty, reporting an interim manager could be installed. That could open the door for Wenger to see out the remaining year at Arsenal before taking over the England job.
