Andre Gomes to Barcelona: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More

Midfielder Andre Gomes has completed his move from Valencia to Barcelona, agreeing to a contract with the Blaugrana on Thursday.The transfer became official after Barcaannounced the deal via their official Twitter feed.The club announced Gomes will "be presented" and sign his contract next week. The 22-year-old is continuing his development in La Ligaafter impressing with Los Che over the past two years. He arrived on a permanent deal last summer after spending the 2014-15 season on loan at the Mestalla.Spanish newspaper Marca (h/tJames Cambridgeof theExpress) recently reported new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte desired the silky midfielder as he rebuilds the recently deposed Premier League champions, and he asked owner Roman Abramovich to snatch the player from Real Madrid's grasp, as Gomes was leaning towards Los Blancos.Marca's CarlosCarpio (adapted by Joseph Sexton) wrote manager Zinedine Zidane saw Gomes as "the perfect alternative to Luka Modric" in the centre of the park and "his long-term heir in the starting XI."However, the Madrid boss will be disappointed Gomes has chosen the Galacticos' most fierce rivals as his new home. The player featured in 30 Spanish Primera Division games for Los Che last season, scoring three goals, according toWhoScored.com.Squawka Football highlighted the youthfulapproachto Barca's summer spending:Gomes also dazzled during Portugal's UEFA Euro 2016 campaign and helped his nation defeat France 1-0 in the tournament's final to clinch continental glory.The midfield maestro moved to Valencia from Benfica, where he spent the final stages of his youth development before earning his first-team debut in 2012 and swiftly moving up the side's ranks.Barcelona have also recruited a player who, despite his youth, is already familiar with the pressures of high-stakes football, as Gomes has earned 13 caps for Portugal in less than two years.
